God's City
A man in Jammu and Kashmir, decided to write a book about temples around the
country. He started by flying to
various pilgrimage places and started moving from North to South.
Going to a very large temple, he began taking photographs and making notes. He
spotted a golden telephone on the
wall and was intrigued with a sign which read "Rs.1000 a minute." Seeking out
the priest he asked about the phone.
The priest answered that this golden phone is, in fact, a direct line to Heaven
and if he pays the price he can talk
directly to God. The man thanked the guru and continued on his way.
As he continued to visit temples in Delhi, Sarnath, UP, Maharashtra, Orissa,
Andhra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and all
around the Country, he found more phones, with the same sign and price, and got
the same answer from each priest.
Finally, he arrived in Trivandrum. Upon entering a temple, behold, he saw the
usual golden Telephone. But THIS time,
the sign read "Calls:1.26 Rupees/Minute." Amazed, he asked the priest. "Guru, Ji,
I have been in cities all across the
country and in each temple, I have found this golden telephone and have been
told it is a direct line to Heaven and that I
could talk to God, but, in the other temples the cost was Rs.1,000 a minute.
Your sign reads 1.26 Rupees/Minute.
Why?" The priest, smiling, replied, "Son, you're in Kerala now. This is God's
own country... and it's a local call.
